We explored some remains of Hoxha’s programme of “bunkerisation”, which resulted in the construction of bunkers in every corner of Albania. Hundreds of thousands of concrete bunkers (built 1960 to 1983) still crowd Albania long after the fall of Communism. Later we arrived to the ruins of the ancient Illyiran city of Apollonia, which sit on a remote hilltop location near Fier. It’s definitely one of Albania’s most important ancient sites with excellent museum. We did evening walk around the site (after closing hour) under the stars and we really enjoyed to be there alone, it had some mystical atmosphere.
