SKAFTAFELL

We have visited Skaftafell – a hiker’s paradise with stunning glaciers and some of the highest peaks of Iceland. The national park is located at the South East Coast of Iceland at the roots of Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe. The geographical and natural diversity makes Skaftafell an ideal place for trekking and exploring. We took a 7,4 kilometers long trek to Svartifoss and Sjónarnípa. Svartifoss waterfall or “black waterfall” is a beautiful 20 meters tall waterfall with black hexagonal basalt columns around. The next stop on our trek was the Sjónarnípa viewpoint. We got there a great view over the mighty Skaftafell glacier and the surrounding mountains. The landscape is breathtaking and makes for some dramatic pictures.
