TÂRGOVIȘTE

We arrived late and parked just in the center of the city. In the morning we have realized it’s a really lovely ancient city. The city is situated on the right bank of the Ialomiţa River and it’s one of the most important cities in the history of Wallachia, it was its capital between the early 15th century and the 16th century. Being an old crossroads of historical trading routes, the city is now a road and rail junction, easily to be approached from all sides. There are plenty of monuments like Chindia Tower, the symbol of Targoviste, added to the city by Vlad Tepes – also known as Dracula. We tried to find famous military barracks, where former Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu and his wife Elena were tried and executed by firing squad on Christmas Day in 1989. But we were not lucky enough 🙁
