MIKUMI NP

After a lovely stay in Morogoro, we drove on the TanZam Highway to Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park, Mikumi National Park, a highly accessible, year-round destination renowned for its picturesque plains dotted with baobab and acacia trees, reminiscent of the Serengeti. Within its 3230 sq km – set between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast, the Rubeho Mountains to the northwest and the Lumango Mountains to the southeast – Mikumi hosts buffaloes, wildebeest, giraffes, elephants, lions, zebras, leopards, crocodiles and endangered wild dogs. Its wildlife is particularly concentrated near the Mkata River during the dry season.

It was not easy to negotiate with local safari car owners, but we found a decent operator, Ricardo Fischer (📞 +255761840731), who provided us with a car for $ 120, plus entrance fees of 97,792 TZS (for one person, paid by card at the gate). The parking at Tan-Swiss Lodge was excellent; they have a pool and also serve delicious Swiss Rösti (20,000 TZS).
