NAMANGA BORDER – II.

We were one day delayed in our departure because we were unable to drive out from our parking spot on the grass in Nairobi. After heavy rains, it was a muddy mess, and it took us the whole day to dig the truck out and get on the road.

After we arrived at the border, another mess began, first on the Kenyan side, where they insisted on paying an additional 7,800 KES (by card) at the arrival immigration building. Then, in the rain, we walked back to the departure immigration building, where the long process on the Tanzanian side had started. This time, they had many questions at immigration before issuing our visas (50,75 USD by card). And it also took a long time to register the truck with customs (25 USD). They wanted cash payments, but we pushed them to use the cc machines on the table, which they said did not work. Well, after some time, they miraculously worked. The whole process took 3,5 hours, and it would probably be much longer without a fixer (2,000 KES, ๐Ÿ“ž+254702613212). On the way out, we drove through the gate, where they usually controlled passport stamps and truck registration, but this time, the night shift was not interested in anything and waved us out, the only friendly spot at this terrible border.

Travel tips
The fixer also arranged for a man to sell us a Tanzanian SIM card and register it under our names (Vodacom / 50,000 TZS / 60 days / 24,6 GB). We had no local cash, so we paid him 3,000 KES, including the SIM card, at the actual average rate according to Google.
