NYERI

Today we arrived in Nyeri in the late afternoon, a town located in Kenya’s Central Highlands, between the Aberdare Range and Mount Kenya. Its geography features rolling hills, fertile valleys, and two distinct ecosystems: the Aberdare National Park and Mount Kenya forests. The area is known for its high altitude, cool climate, and picturesque, mountainous landscape, which supports tea and coffee farming and fruit production, particularly avocados.

We spent a night there and found two acceptable food options – Raybells Restaurant and Vatican Grill. Nyeri’s history is marked by its founding as a British colonial outpost in 1902, which led to the settlement of European farmers and merchants. It later became a key location during the Mau Mau Uprising. Notable historical landmarks include the graves of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, the Paxtu Museum, and the old clock tower at the Consolata Catholic Cathedral.
