ANDASIBE

Once a quiet forest village shaped by colonial-era railway development, Andasibe gradually grew as travellers and researchers were drawn to the surrounding rainforests of Madagascar. Over time, its proximity to protected areas such as Andasibe-Mantadia National Park made it one of the countryโ€™s key eco-tourism hubs.

Despite this growth, rural life in Andasibe remains simple and closely tied to nature. Many residents rely on small-scale farming, cultivating rice, cassava, and bananas, while others work as local guides, craftsmen, or in small lodges serving visitors. Daily life follows a slower rhythm, shaped by the forest, the seasons, and strong community ties, which offered us a glimpse into an authentic and grounded way of living.
