TURMI MARKET

On our way back to the Hamer tribe, we stopped at Turmi to visit the lively market, a weekly gathering of the Hamer people in southwestern Ethiopia’s Omo Valley. It is known for its vibrant atmosphere, social significance, and traditional trade. During the market, which typically takes place on Mondays and Saturdays, people trade goods such as livestock, grains, honey, and handicrafts, with women often selling food items and men trading livestock. The event is also a crucial social event for the Hamer community to meet, barter, and maintain cultural traditions. We paid 50 ETB for each photo of an adult person.
