We made overnight, and the next morning, sightseeing of Ansohihy – a crucial, bustling river harbour in northwestern Madagascar. It acts as a vital trade link connecting the inland Sofia region to the coast via the Loza River. It serves as a major logistical hub for transporting local seafoodโspecifically shrimp and crabsโfrom the coast to inland markets.
The little town was founded where sohihy trees (used for shipbuilding) were abundant. It has a history tied to trade, forestry, and its location along the Loza River, which links inland routes to the sea.
