DRIVE TO AMBOSITRA

The two-day drive from Antananarivo to Ambositra via Antsirabe follows Madagascarโ€™s iconic RN7, a route that gradually unfolds the islandโ€™s highland landscapes. Leaving the capital behind, the scenery quickly shifts to rolling hills, terraced rice paddies, and clusters of red-earth villages, where daily life plays out along the roadside.

As the road climbs into the central highlands, the air becomes cooler and fresher. Around Antsirabe, wide volcanic plains open up, dotted with eucalyptus trees and crater lakes, giving the landscape a spacious, almost pastoral feel. The terrain here is shaped by ancient volcanic activity, as evidenced by the gentle slopes and fertile soils.

Beyond Antsirabe, the route toward Ambositra becomes more winding, cutting through increasingly lush hills and patchwork farmland. Pine forests begin to appear, and the scenery feels greener and more humid. The road itself is generally in decent condition, though expect occasional rough patches, slow-moving carts, and plenty of opportunities to pause and take in the view.
