Driving from Toliara to Morondava via Miandrivazo was a rugged two-day, 1,249 km adventure through Madagascar’s remote western region. The journey begins by heading north along the paved RN7 to Antsirabe, crossing the arid southern highlands with their wide savanna landscapes. From there, the route follows the narrow, well-paved RN35 toward Miandrivazo, winding through scenic highlands. Although the road is generally manageable, it becomes increasingly twisting as it descends from the central plateau, where bare hills dominate the landscape. Beyond Miandrivazo, the scenery shifts dramatically as the road enters the western lowlands, marked by scrubland, towering baobab trees, and intense heat.
