DRIVE TO BULAWAYO

The 495-kilometre journey along the A8 Highway turned into an exhausting 11-hour ordeal, with stops in Hwange National Park and Lupane. This key route connects Zimbabwe’s second-largest city, Bulawayo, with the world-famous Victoria Falls, yet much of it is in extremely poor condition. Deep potholes dominate long stretches of the road, making progress slow and demanding constant attention. Although rehabilitation works are underway, construction is moving at a frustratingly slow pace, and only a few short sections of newly upgraded tarmac have been opened so far. Despite these improvements, the A8 remains one of the worst roads we have encountered anywhere in Africa during our travels.
