Driving from Caia to Beira via Inchope covers around 446 kilometres. The first leg along the N1 to Gorongosa took us 11 hours for just 226 kilometres, although that was still one hour faster than on our way there. We once again battled some notoriously degraded sections of road, particularly around Gorongosa.
After an overnight stop, we continued towards Inchope on heavily damaged roads, covering the next stretch in around three hours. From Inchope, however, everything changed as we joined the N6 towards Beira. This is a wide, generally smooth road, allowing us to cover the total of 220 kilometres in around six hours.
In total, the journey from Caia to Beira took us roughly 17 hours of driving, split over two days — a good reminder of how dramatically road conditions can vary along this route.
