JNB – ROSEBANK

We had a lovely afternoon in Rosebank, a vibrant, modern and surprisingly walkable commercial and residential suburb. It is one of the city’s most popular shopping and entertainment districts, with major retail centres including Rosebank Mall, The Zone @ Rosebank and The Firs. The area also has a strong focus on local design, art and food, making it a pleasant place to spend a few hours simply wandering around.

One of the highlights is a next-generation department store inside The Zone, showcasing more than 180 local and international brands. On Sundays, the rooftop market becomes especially lively, with stalls selling clothing, crafts, local snacks and an eclectic selection of international street food.

For art and design lovers, Keyes Art Mile is a must. Centred around Keyes Avenue, this creative strip combines fine-dining restaurants, design showrooms and contemporary galleries, including the renowned Goodman Gallery. Modern architecture, colourful street art and outdoor sculptures are scattered throughout the neighbourhood, adding plenty of visual interest.

What we particularly enjoyed about Rosebank was how easy it was to explore on foot. After spending so much time exploring the historic and sometimes gritty side of Johannesburg, Rosebank offered a completely different perspective — modern, stylish, relaxed and very easy to enjoy on foot.
