The rather rough road from Ambanja brought us to Ankify Port (about 1 hour / 22 km), a busy maritime hub in northwestern Madagascar. It serves as the main gateway for passengers and cargo travelling between the mainland and nearby islands such as Nosy Be, Nosy Komba, and Nosy Tanikely. Located just outside Ambanja, the port handles hundreds of passengers and significant volumes of goods each day.
The process was surprisingly efficient: we bought tickets for a speedboat (“coque rapide”) for 20,000 MGA, waited only a few minutes, loaded our luggage, were handed life vests, and set off for Nosy Be. After about a 40-minute crossing, we arrived in Hell-Ville.
