The scenic 664-kilometre journey back to the capital took us two days. On the first day, we drove from Morondava to Antsirabe via Miandrivazo in around 11 hours โ roughly one hour faster than on our outbound trip. The following day, the drive to Antananarivo took about seven hours, slowed mainly by road construction works on the approach to the capital.
The route passes through strikingly varied landscapes, from coastal plains dotted with baobab trees to Madagascarโs central highlands. Road conditions, however, demand patience: the RN34/RN35 section between Morondava and Miandrivazo is notorious for potholes and deteriorated surfaces. At the same time, the RN7 between Antsirabe and Antananarivo is generally in better condition but often slowed by heavy traffic.
