KERKOUANE (كركوان)

Around lunchtime, we have arrived at the site of an ancient Punic city in north-eastern Tunisia, near Cap Bon. Kerkouane town existed for almost 400 years and nowadays it’s one of the most preserved Punic settlements and it’s listed in UNESCO (entrance 8 TND). It was probably abandoned during the First Punic War 250 BC, and as a result, it was not rebuilt by the Romans. The town layout is clearly visible and some walls, pillars, and colored clay facades still remain. Curbstones, doorsteps, thresholds, and floors of simple mosaic layers are found all over the ruins. Hot visit we finished with ice cream (3 TND).
