Another short visit took us to Mantenga Cultural Village, followed by a short hike to Eswatini’s most famous waterfall. Cascading for roughly 95 metres over massive granite rocks on the Lushushwane River, Mantenga Falls is one of the country’s most impressive natural landmarks and its largest waterfall by volume.
The village itself is quite tourist-oriented and is located within the Mantenga Nature Reserve (🎟️ 150 SZL) in the Ezulwini Valley. It is a carefully recreated 1850s-era traditional Swazi homestead, featuring 16 authentic-style beehive huts, reed fences and a cattle byre. Local guides explain traditional social structures, ancient customs and the everyday life of a Swazi community.
Every afternoon at 15:15, the village comes alive with traditional performances. The highlight is the energetic Sibhaca dance, featuring powerful high kicks, rhythmic drumming and singing—a colourful and lively introduction to Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.
