It was one of the quickest and most efficient border crossings we have experienced on our travels. We arrived on the Mozambican side, where the police briefly looked inside the truck. We then parked next to the immigration building, where they stamped our passports and CPD. A few metres later, we reached the Eswatini side of the border. Immigration stamped our passports and issued us an exit gate pass, while our CPD was stamped at the next window.
We then paid the single-entry road tax by card in South African rand (350 ZAR). After that, we were ready to leave through the gate, where they checked the road-tax payment and collected our exit pass. The entire process took just 10 minutes — remarkably quick and efficient!
Just after the gate, we stopped at a small, unofficial-looking Choppies supermarket to buy some water and get our MTN SIM cards from a small street booth. The SIM card cost 5 SZL, while a 30-day 10 GB data package was 150 SZL, including a local 200-minute and 100 sms package. There was also a Standard Bank ATM nearby, where we withdrew some cash in Eswatini lilangeni (SZL).
