AL HAYL (حصن الحيل)

The rough road brought us through a nice wadi to the small Al Hayl fort, built around 1830. This well-preserved fort is tucked deep into the jagged Hajar Mountains near the village of Al Hayl, about 13km southwest of Fujairah. It’s an excellent example of traditional architecture, constructed from mud-brick and plaster. There’s not much inside, but the surrounding views of the palm-speckled valley backed by mountains made it worth a visit. A friendly Bangladeshi guard showed us around (tip 5 EUR/person) and later offered us tea and chicken with rice.
