Evocatively named after its shimmering surface, Silver Lake in Serbia’s east was for us a good stop on the way to Đerdap National Park. The 14 kilometers long and 13 meters deep, oxbow-shaped lake was created by damming (1971) an arm of the Danube and is well-populated with fish. It is situated at the altitude of 70 m surrounded by hills Gorica (282 m) to the north, Lipovača (362 m) to the south, and the elongated hill of Veliko Brdo and its highest peak of Anatema (324 m) to the west. The lake has been a popular holiday and fishing destination for decades, but recently experienced a visitor’s boom, attracting tourists from all over Central Serbia. As a result of the lake’s growing popularity, it has been since recently advertised as “Serbian sea”, since Serbia is landlocked. We parked for free (otherwise there is paid parking) within walking distance from marina and restaurant Dinčić (Pork filet – 900 RSD, Chicken skewer – 820 RSD, Gordon Bleu – 900 RSD, Greek salad – 300 RSD, Šopska salad – 250 RSD, Mineral water – 0,75 l / 180 RSD, Jelen beer – 0,5 l / 160 RSD).
