We made a short stop at Kagunguli, at the oldest Roman church on the island, built in 1895, located near a hill with the same name. We were greeted by friendly sister Linda, who guided us around the premises. Despite the church, there is also the old school and dispensary, which were built between 1902 and 1913 and have survived to date with few repairs. All are still in use by the St. Augustine of Hippo Primary School, serving a few hundred students. The school has roots in the Nyegezi Social Training Institute (NSTI), established in 1960 by the Catholic White Fathers.
