NEEMA CRAFTS

Brigitte was our guide today, who took us through the story of Neema Crafts in Iringa. It was established by Susie Hart MBE in 2003, who was born with a disability and recognised the need for employment opportunities for others with disabilities. However, the Neema Crafts centre is also a project of the Anglican Diocese of Ruaha.

It is a social enterprise that provides training and employment to people with disabilities, offering them a chance to earn a living and gain dignity, rather than relying on street begging. Visitors can purchase high-quality, unique, handcrafted goods, such as paper products and textiles, enjoy food and coffee at the cafe run by deaf staff, or stay at the on-site guest house. We took our breakfasts there, and they had tasty panini with ham and cheese, as well as a good selection of brownies, cookies, and cakes. The centre is considered an essential visit in Iringa, praised for its inspiring atmosphere, friendly staff, and support for an excellent cause.
