Nestled in Catta Camp in Tsaranoro Valley in southern Madagascar, we spent an unforgettable day exploring one of the islandโs most breathtaking landscapes. Our adventure began with a five-hour morning hike through the valley (๐๏ธ20,000 MGA, guide 100,000 MGA), winding past lush scenery and traditional local villages, surrounded by towering cliffs and vibrant greenery.
Tsaranoro Valley is renowned for its dramatic 800-meter granite walls, making it one of Africaโs most spectacular vertical landscapes and a world-class destination for rock climbing and trekking. Dominated by the majestic Tsaranoro Massif, the valleyโs rugged beauty is balanced by its rich biodiversity, where lush forests meet open savannas in a unique ecological transition zone.
The area is home to fascinating wildlife, including ring-tailed lemurs, colourful chameleons, diverse bird species, and distinctive native flora. Beyond its natural wonders, the valley is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Betsileo people. Tsaranoro is also steeped in local legend. Its name is linked to the story of two sisters, Ratsara and Ranoro, and the valley remains a sacred place for many local communities.
