WADI MUJIB (وادي الموجب)

The vast Wadi Mujib stretches 70km from the Desert Hwy to the Dead Sea, proudly called the ‘Grand Canyon of Jordan.’ The spectacular canyon is also significant as the historical boundary between the ancient Amorites (to the north) and the Moabites (to the south). Moses is believed to have walked through Wadi Mujib, known as the Arnon Valley. We stopped several times for some photos, but the best canyon views are on its northern rim, 3km beyond the small town of Dhiban.

The King’s Highway crosses the wadi’s upper reaches, while its lower reaches fall within the Mujib Biosphere Reserve. We tried to access the RSCN reserve from the Dead Sea Hwy, but it was closed during the holy month of Ramadan.
