ACHERON (Ἀχέρων)

The Acheron River flows from Mount Souli Epirus and reaches the Ionian Sea at Ammoudia Beach. In addition to its natural beauty, the Acheron is known worldwide for its mythological content. In ancient Greek mythology, Acheron (also called the Styx) was the river the dead were ferried across to reach the underworld. Today, a hike through the crystal clear milky-green waters is a way to explore a high canyon with green vegetation that flourishes along.
