Today we did a rough off-road drive in a hired Toyota (200 USD) around the Gacan Libaax mountain range at 1,720 meters above sea level. The name “Gacan Libaax” translates to “The lion’s paw”. It is known for its unique juniper forests and ancient rock art. Located in a central highland ecosystem parallel to the Gulf of Aden, the area is characterised by misty conditions that support plant life, some of which is endemic.
The local guide brought us to the viewpoint and to a nearby large “lion” cave. Then we had our international picnic on the top of the mountain — Saudi Arabian cheese, Thai tuna tin, Somali bread, and Egyptian orange juice.
