ALLÉE DES BAOBABS

After visiting Kivalo, we arrived just in time at the iconic Avenue of the Baobabs, a famous dirt road lined with nearly two dozen majestic Adansonia grandidieri trees, some more than 800 years old and reaching heights of up to 30 meters. These extraordinary baobabs are the last remnants of what was once a dense tropical forest.

Sunset is the most popular — and most magical — time to experience the avenue, although it can become quite crowded. Sunrise is said to offer a similarly beautiful but much calmer atmosphere; unfortunately, during our visit, the landscape was covered in fog. There is a mandatory parking area beside the site (5,000 MGA).

Nearby, you can also find the famous “Baobabs in Love,” a popular attraction where two intertwined baobab trees appear to embrace each other.
